THE DESIGN TRENDS FOR 2012

In October at the Boston Design Center, many world-wide known designers shared their knowledge, ideas and talked about TRENDS FOR 2012!!!
As I was very inspired by this meeting, I will summarize it for you….

Color - purple, green and orange

Purple - embodys' red’s stimulation and blues' calm reigns, adds passion to any room. Shades from amethyst, hydrangea, orchid, plum and fuchsia.
Greens - from apple and grass to lime and teal, this coming year will be seen in combination with red, yellow, black and navy.
Oranges – you either love it, or hate it!- will be used in all kinds of contexts, from contemporary to retro. Shades from tangerine to salmon.

To balance all the above strong colors Taupe is still on the top! Do you know what I love about that color? -  no two people may agree on exactly what taupe looks like!! I think it’s safe to say that it falls somewhere between gray and beige.

A beautiful orange chair like this from the Haworth showroom would bring life to a room.

 Pattern - vibrant florals…
…that appear in unexpectedly non-floral colors (brown, green, taupe and gray), show up on fabrics, as you would expect, but also in contexts you don’t expect to see.

Style - simple and sophisticated…
... toward timeless charm and quiet luxury: clean lines, minimalist chic, simple shapes.

But if you live with pets and children, the Modern Family trend brings easy elegance to the home in 2012: sofas to fall into, fabrics that aren’t precious, tables that you can put your feet on.

The graphical wall covering, from the

Berkeley House showroom, looks amazing with purple on the
walls and trim in this bathroom setting.

On the Walls
Painting your rooms is about more than the colors you choose.
  • Color used on the walls and white on the trim
  • Light/neutral colored walls used with dark trim
  • The same color used on walls and woodwork (This works especially well where there is a beautiful view, since the eye doesn’t stop at the woodwork; it flows right to the window, which becomes a work of art.)
  •  Injecting one slightly darker color into a neutral palette to bring all the other colors to life.
