EASY WAYS TO PREPARE YOUR HOME FOR FALL

How quickly the sunny, warm air changes to crisp and cool and your "light and breezy" home decor feels like it needs warming up.  Now it's time to transition to a "warm and cozy" style for fall and winter. Grab a blanket and a cup of hot cocoa and find your favorite idea!

  • Place seasonal flowers in urns or pots along your walkway or in a cluster to the side of the door. Place an oversized decorative wreath or swag on, above or beside your front door.

  • Pick 3 highly visible places in your home where you can create little Fall vignettes. Areas to consider: dining room table, side table, fireplace mantel, coffee table, stairway or landing, kitchen island, the top of cabinets or armoires, or a bathroom vanity.

  • Easy décor ideas:  Fill a few bowls, baskets or, one of my favorites, vintage silver trays with seasonal elements such as pinecones, nuts, cinnamon sticks, silk leaves, fall ornaments, gourds, mini pumpkins or seasonal fruits and place them on an entryway table, a bathroom vanity or a coffee table. Hang a fall wreath over a mirror inside your home. Natural elements such as twigs, bay leaves or wheat grass wreaths complement many décor styles.

  • Add table runners to your buffet, entry or dining tables. Tie the colors in with your décor. Adding a runner adds a layer and layers equal warmth (just like our fall wardrobe!).

  • Toss a cozy throw on your sofa or chair to snuggle up in on those frosty evenings or early mornings. This is an easy way to add a pop of warm color to your sofa.

  • Change out some of your pillows, with richer fabrics such as chenille, wool, corduroy and tapestry. Consider swapping linen or sheer curtains with lined drapery for a fuller and warmer look.

  • Add a few extra lamps around your home to fill your home with light as the daylight gets shorter.

  • In the bedroom, dress your bed in heavier, richer colored bedding and flannel sheets

  • Remember to light candles that remind you of the season – cinnamon, pumpkin and vanilla are all “warm” smells to spread throughout your home.

Seasonal changes need not be complicated or costly! Remember to enjoy the process of creating a warm and welcoming home. What is your favorite way to dress your home for Fall? Will you try any of these ideas in your home? Please leave a comment and let me know.

Happy decorating!
