THANKSGIVING - guest bedroom and more...

When it comes to Thanksgiving, everybody thinks about the turkey, stuffing and pie, but after dinner is over and the dishes are washed, your house guests need a welcoming place to rest their heads.  If you are hosting overnight guests for Thanksgiving you want the guest to be comfortable and to feel welcome. Here are a few tips for creating a welcoming guest room.
~ Lighting at the bedside table - guests might want to read before sleeping. It’s nice to be able to turn on and off a light from the bed.
~ Reading materials. Leave a few magazines, geared to your guest’s interests, by the bed.

~ Glass with Pitcher-people get thirsty during the evening and sometimes guests do not feel comfortable walking through your home in the middle of the night.
~ Clock. Some people really like to know what time it is or need to be up at a certain time, so this is functional (but make it pretty too!).
~ Pillows, pillows and more pillows (with lovely pillowcases too!!) on the bed and also have extra pillows stored in an armoire or closet just in case more is needed.
~ It will be very thoughtful to add pretty tray with travel size soap, shampoo and conditioner, etc to accessorize the guest bedroom.

~ Leave a small vase of flowers on the table – it will make your guests feel extra special.
~ Make sure the bedding is freshly washed, and that there is a place for guests to rest their suitcase or bag and hangers and space in the closet for their clothing.

Since we are cooking today…why not share a great recipe? I got it from designer Tobi’s Fairley whose work and personality I truly admire. I tried it- it is easy and delicious! and will make today again. It’s perfect for today’s dinner, just put next to the turkey for 2-3 hours….

Slow-Baked Butternut Squash
1 large (or 2 small-medium) butternut squash, peeled and diced into 3/4 in. cubes
3-4 cloves of fresh garlic, minced
1/8 c. chopped, fresh parsley
2-3 Tbsp. flour
salt and pepper
olive oil (enough for drizzling)
Preheat oven to 325 F. In a mixing bowl, stir the garlic and parsley into the cubed squash. Coat the mixture with flour. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Transfer mixture into a baking dish. Drizzle with olive oil (somewhat generously). Pop into oven for 2-3 hours. The squash will be fragrant and soft and divine. Enjoy!
